Tell Me What I Did To You Here I stand accused of abuse, why should I choose to stay as you look at me solemnly like you've been betrayed. You've been holding on to some wrong for so long you let us break But, how was I to know that you won't let it show 'til its too late Won't you tell me what I did to you 'Cause its something that I never knew all the days that you and I've been through slowly dying from an open wound I'm no Judas or Brutus don't do this to me tell me where or when, maybe then, I'll begin to see But, maybe you're to blame for the same list of shame that fuels you're rage Because, my open door was ignored for this war you wished to wage Don't you tell me what I did to you 'Cause its something that I never knew all the days that you and I've been through slowly dying from an open wound. Won't you tell me? Now, our half-agreed apologies really didn't help and accidentally you cut me - now, I bleed myself. Won't you tell me what I did to you 'Cause its something that I never knew all the days that you and I've been through slowly dying from an open wound. Won't you tell me now? Please, tell me now.

The First Sign Born to be beautiful, you're a natural symphony a girl-next-door rhapsody Making it difficult to be where I supposed to be amazed by the scenery Is you're mark of mystery some dark omen of my misery? Wish there was some guarantee this is no dead end detour Lost without a trace of time or place Thought I was on my way down But, now I found that You're the first sign that at last my heart has healed You're the first sign that the last time wasn't real. Won't you show me the way back I can't think and I keep losing track I just seem to overreact to the crimes that came before Lost without a trace of time or place Thought I was on my way down But, now I found that You're the first sign (and I'm the last one I would guess) You're the first sign of my lasting interest I'm in you're pocket now like a token of good faith a charmed tied around you're waist knowing somewhere somehow, if I ever lost my way The map lies in your embrace. Lost without a trace of time or place Thought I was on my way down But, now I found that You're the first sign that at last my heart has healed You're the first sign that the last time wasn't real. You're the first sign (and I'm the last one I would guess) You're the first sign of my lasting interest

The Way She Falls Red, orange and bright yellow drop at the sound of "Hello" Suddenly, its all masks and demons at the door She dances on All Hallows Bonfires and springtimes shadows Seems to be glad to see the end of longer days Never leaves me altogether Even in the warmest weather Wintertime's just outside and that's the way she falls Cold today and snow tomorrow Giving back the time she borrowed Summertime's changed her mind and that's the way she falls I like the way she brings to me Those sweet nostalgic memories Man to child for awhile I'm young and innocent Seems like she's always been here 'Round the same time most every year But, every day that she stays I want to celebrate Never leaves me altogether Even in the warmest weather Wintertime's just outside and that's the way she falls Cold today and snow tomorrow Giving back the time she borrowed Summertime's changed her mind and that's the way she falls Tickles the troubleman, trimming the sales and tipping the scales into the New Year, when new resolutions and clear constitutions will fade by the time she's here again Let her take you back, let her take you back While winter was welcome and springtime is seldom the bringer of tears, its perfectly clear, She has good intentions and sometimes elections. But, please don't hold that against her. Let her take you back, let her take you back Never leaves me altogether Even in the warmest weather Wintertime's just outside and that's the way she falls Cold today and snow tomorrow Giving back the time she borrowed Summertime's changed her mind and that's the way she falls Autumn rides and oak leaf tide and that's the way she falls.

Fadeaway 05:23
Fadeaway The scent of cold, clouds of breath before us the glaring blankness beyond the door The atmosphere fills an empty chorus our footsteps crush on the barren floor Imprisoned by icy gray reflections in isolation acknowledge pain In retrospect, the answers come so clearly to mend the cracks in our souls again It fades away the darkness seeps through the waning bright It fades away the black and white in the scenes of our lives. With crooked smiles and bittersweet acceptance we face the truths that we cannot hide and all the while serving out our sentence remove the stains on our perfect lives It fades away the darkness seeps through the waning bright It fades away the black and white in the scenes of our lives. Gone are the faces that told us who to follow Gone are the voices that sung discord Gone is the beauty of the lies we swallowed Gone is the conscience we just ignored

Cardinal Red 04:04
Cardinal Red Dead and dark at the start it arrives and everything melts away Damp and cold withered old then a shower of birthdays begins and its Cardinal Red, Kelly Green icicle songs surrendering All that’s gone, tomorrow brings on newborn wings at the end and beginning of all in between Past my prime but I find this reminds me of all that’s new rain street shine mudded vines when that eastern wind plays with the pinwheels its Cardinal Red, Kelly Green Winter white world surrendering All that’s gone tomorrow brings on newborn wings at the end and beginning of all in between Cardinal Red, Kelly Green Winter white world surrendering All that’s gone tomorrow brings on newborn wings at the end and beginning of all in between at the end and beginning of all in between

Drift 03:24
Smokey beam through black curtains jump on and ride into the blue. we could lay here through midday. sleep in the cool shades of our youth. Third person life-long big plans lay ashen in the light of noon one peek outside the porthole retreat inside our bed sheet womb Unconscious at the break of day hoping one day we’ll find a way to drift into the sun. In steaminess and salt breeze wake in the chrome of ocean calm pale sky dome radiating we listen to each seagull psalm we’ve found so many ways to play and when the mainsail starts to sway we’ll drift into the sun. wave lullabye of white noise sleep on warm sands of your life.

Second Time Mistakes There’s that feeling on the river’s shore Double deja-vu knocks on the door Held the winning hand and then we played a losing game now our almost famous run is not worth two-bits. Bitter memories flash a nervous grin face-to-face with history’s ugly twin If we look beyond sweet circumstance and give ourselves this loser’s chance this won’t be your second time mistake Now its time to take a hand and ante up again Can we break the house with just a pair of deuces? Cast your fate and see what chance creates can’t two suckers catch a lucky break If we look beyond sweet circumstance give ourselves a loser’s chance this won’t be your second time mistake. Bitter memories flash a nervous grin face-to-face with history’s ugly twin If we look beyond sweet circumstance and give ourselves this loser’s chance this won’t be your second time mistake Now its time to take a hand and ante up again Can we break the house with just a pair of deuces? Consolation Prize Now, when the gameshow‘s over And you’ve answered every clue You were the title-holder A one-man wrecking crew Clutching the trophy tightly You thank all the family And to the friends who finally Made you stop and see You win, you lose You pay your dues And then you realize That all it’s worth ‘s a consolation prize Standing beneath the spotlights The announcer waits his cue This was to be your big night But, now you see the truth. After he thanks the sponsors He holds out his hand to you “Congratulations, loser! Here’s to all that you could do.” CHORUS To be human is to err and that’s when it came unglued you stood there all transparent to everyone who viewed. The tabloid paparazzi struggle for a decent shot the ten o’clock reporters want their 15 second spots. CHORUS
9.
Smitten 04:15
Smitten Some people say it’s an unhealthy obsession That I’ll win the trophy for the dunce of the year But, I’m just hoping for an honorable mention ‘Cause, I see the blows coming but I just can’t get clear I was…. Knocked Out, Tripped Up, Smacked down Smitten by the charms of a good friend’s friend Left hook, right jab, ropes bound Smitten and its too bad this has to end Well, I must say she has the form of a champion Smart and strong and unbelievably young Drinks an amaretto sour all the way to the bottom Ties the stem of the cherry in a knot with her tongue I was…. CHORUS I’ve been training to resist all temptation I’ve spent time shadow boxing my will But, it seems my common sense is all on vacation and my head feels like its been drowned in a still. Now, I can shake off any surface attraction But, she’s got some kind of hold over me I’m just trying to avoid a distraction that leaves me punch drunk out in the street She says she’s had more than her fair share of attention with bar room stalkers that don’t realize she knows martial arts but, that’s no point of contention what I really want to know is can she use them on me… CHORUS
10.
Impersonal 05:23
Impersonal Gifts are all pre-packed in brown paper bags no gift wrap or tags for you Love notes all pre-signed with those common rhymes sterile closing lines make it Impersonal, cold and unreachable getting too close is so unbearable but, changing your ways won’t be unavoidable it’s undeniable in love you can’t be impersonal You live without pain net no loss or gain nothing to complain about. Stay just out of touch never say too much never raise a fuss or doubt that you’re CHORUS Maybe all you need is some soul’s sympathy an opportunity to change Someone who can see impersonality is just your way to be afraid. that’s why you’re CHORUS
11.
Maybe It’s Time Wake up, you’re dreamin’ I heard you silent screaming so loud those demons are coming out Each breath is chokin’ you’re body’s badly brokin’ I know you’re hopin for no more doubt So maybe its time to think about the time that we’ve got Maybe its time to change our plans and open our hearts Maybe its time to count our friends - the ones we forgot. Maybe its time. It’s time. When each day escapes us I know we should be gracious when life ain’t painless But, things just go wrong For you its harder you’ve traveled so much farther But, I know. Your'e you smarter and bound to live strong. CHORUS I know its easy for me to say when my life goes easy from day to day But, you’ve showed me all the ways the world can be cruel Well, what should we do? Think world would just be fine if we all had time? CHORUS

Special Thanks to:

Jessica: for still putting up with my hobbies.

Grayson: for singing Dad's songs better than Dad.

Julian: for laughing at nothing and everything.

Dave Weber: For not going insane at any point in this project.

All the musicians: For not rolling their eyes..well, most of the time. Also, for doing that third take even thought the first two were fine.

My family: for encouraging me to be a musician in their own unique way.

Jack Helsley: For helping me count to four on a 5/4|3/4 song and for having a sense of humor.

Harry Goodloe: For fleshing out all the drum parts and making them his own.

Mike Stricklin: For making the sax parts better than just the notes printed on a page.

Tom Clark: For making the sax parts have more heart than they had written in them.

Peter Kienle: For doing all those crazy solos and giving every song more rich texture.

Toni Bosten: You're vocals sound so good, I just had to record you multiple times on these songs.

Dave Weber: For his engineering prowess, his knowledge of music in general and his ability to make things sound better behind my back. The recording wouldn't sound as good without you.

Steve Griffey: For helping me with the look and feel of this CD. You have a great eye for what you photograph. You even have two of them.

Bill Lancton, Wendy Reed, Jeff Reed, Darren Vincent, Larry Sauer, Lisa Sauce, Michael Beck, Terry Wilson, Greg Anderson, Dave Allee, Dave Andricik, Tony Fese, Sean Baker, Rob Dixon, Jennifer Kirk, Sam Withrow, Fred Withrow, Paul Holdman, Bryan Meyers and all the people I have worked with who have kept work coming my way: There would be no CD without you. There would be no music career without you.

Steve Allee and Claude Sifferlin: Who's early mentoring was priceless, and who I am still in awe of.

Dave Allee: For opening and maintaining one of the best Jazz Clubs in the Midwest

Dave Andricik: For one of the best hole-in-the-wall jazz bars in the midwest.

Darren Snider: For teaching me all about podcasting and new media (what little I know) and for showing up to a lot of my gigs.
